Advertising expenditures in the U.K. totaled 4,208 million pounds in the first quarter of 2007 - a year-on-year increase of 3.0 percent, according to the Advertising Association (U.K.) report “Quarterly Survey of Advertising Expenditure,” researched and compiled by the World Advertising Research Center (WARC), reports MarketingCharts.
The 3.0 percent quarterly increase is the highest recorded since the first quarter of 2005, the AA said.
Cinema was the second-fastest growing medium, rising 9.9 percent from 1Q06, and the outdoor sector posted a strong year-on-year increase of 7.7 percent.
Internet advertising expenditure is estimated to have gained 42 percent year-on-year in the first three months of the year, according to WARC.
Both TV and radio improved from a poor second half 2006 to show only small declines of 0.8 percent and 1.8 percent, respectively, in the first quarter.
The figures shown in the table exclude expenditure on advertisement production and on sponsorship and promotions, but include agency commission. All figures are given at current prices - i.e., without adjusting for inflation.
