MediaBistro Sells to Jupitermedia Corp.

MediaBistro.com, the site created when Laurel Touby wanted to turn her popular cocktail parties into a resource for job-seeking media and creative professionals, has sold to Jupitermedia Corporation for $23 million. Touby plans to remain with the company as a senior vice president.
Jupitermedia is an internet research company that also sells photos and art. Alan M. Meckler, chairman and chief executive of the company, says that MediaBistro will provide the company with another diversified and fast-growing revenue stream through its vertical online job board, writes The New York Times.

About the sale, Touby writes in her blog: “When Jupitermedia contacted us a few months back, I couldn’t think of a better company to acquire us. The companies complement each other in so many ways. Jupiter has its own job boards, JustTechJobs.com. It has a vast customer base of creatives and creative buyers on its Graphics.com network. It has a huge e-media business. And, finally, its CEO Alan Meckler, has years of experience in the conference business, an area where we are eager to grow.”

She adds that Meckler is a visionary who “gets it” in a way that “few old media CEOs do.”
