ESPN: Beckham Boosts Ratings

The hopes of the U.S. soccer league that superstar David Beckham will improve ratings may prove to be well founded.

Last Saturday’s ESPN broadcast of the game in which Beckham made his debut with the L.A. Galaxy generated the highest ratings ever for a Major League Soccer game on ESPN or ESPN2, according to Media Life.

The game was the top-rated program in ad-supported cable among the 18-49 and 25-54 demos. The game was also a bigger draw than all non-World Cup U.S. Soccer National Team games.

The new reality show on NBC featuring Beckham’s wife, former pop singer Victoria Beckham - Victoria Beckham: Coming to America - drew 5 million viewers on Monday night.
