Chef Gordon Ramsay Media buyers say Thursday nights this fall look to be another close race, but they’re expecting ABC to hold its narrow lead from last season on the strength of Grey’s Anatomy, writes Media Life.
However, CBS could narrow that lead thanks to the return of Without a Trace from Sunday night. And Fox could edge past NBC for third place on the strength of its hit game show, Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?
ABC is keeping Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy from 8 to 10 p.m., and is adding a new drama, Big Shots, at 10. Susan Hajny, broadcast research manager at GSD&M, doesn’t believe the 10 hour will improve over last season, in spite of the new show. She says that CBS could possibly beat ABC in 18-49s for the night.
CBS is hoping Without a Trace will help boost Survivor and CSI, both of which are slipping.
NBC is airing four comedies, including 30 Rock, The Office, Scrubs and My Name Is Earl, followed by ER at 10.
It is possible that Fox will slip by NBC for third place, with its hit reality show 5th Grader and a new reality show, set to air at 9 p.m., starring the controversial and mean chef Gordon Ramsay. If Kitchen Nightmare does well, it could help boost Fox past NBC. On the other hand, the show may be delayed; a restaurant manager is bringing a lawsuit contending he was humiliated when producers made his business look bad.
