Deutsche Telekom AG is considering pulling its $18 million sponsorship of the T-Mobile cycling team following the suspension of a rider who tested positive for drugs a month before the Tour began, writes Bloomberg.
T-Mobile’s Patrik Sinkewitz tested positive for higher-than-normal levels of testosterone in June. He asked for a backup sample to be tested, and that backup test will be carried out on July 31. Sinkewitz pulled out of the race after colliding with a fan.
Last July, Deutsche Telekom fired former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich because of doping allegations. At the time, Deutsche Telekom renewed its sponsorship and said it would introduce internal drug testing.
