Sirius Claims Loss of $134.1MM

Sirius Satellite Radio added more than half-a-million new subscribers in the second quarter and trimmed its net loss substantially, from $237.8 million last year to $134.1 million this year, writes the Associated Press.

The cost of adding new subscribers fell from $131 in the same period last year to $108 this year; however, average monthly revenue per subscriber also fell, from $11.71 last year to $10.71 this year, partly due to a decline in average advertising revenue per subscriber.

Churn, meanwhile, increased from 1.8 percent to 2.1 percent.

Sirius now claims more than 7 million subscribers, and expects its merger with XM to be completed by the end of the year, despite the steep regulatory hurdles it faces.
