AMC’s original programming slate includes four new development deals. One of these is a one-hour drama based on the book of short stories penned by Tim O’Brien, The Things They Carried. O’Brien’s book was short listed for the Pulitzer Prize.
Another, Cutman, is a one-hour drama based on the stories of the late F.X. Toole, of Million Dollar Baby fame, writes Mediaweek. There will also be a political thriller set in a Washington, D.C. think tank, and a project about the life and times of a professional basketball star.
As with AMC’s recently debuted and critically acclaimed original drama series Mad Men, the greenlighted series will all be shot on film rather than on video, in order to match the quality of the movies in AMC’s library.
Mad Men, the network’s first venture into scripted fare, debuted to 1.6 million viewers, 510,000 in the adults 18-49 demo. In its second showing, 1 million total viewers saw the show, with 277,000 18-49s.
