Nine lucky consumers are being given the opportunity to purchase Apple’s new iPhone for only 99¢, thanks to a promotion by The 99¢ Only Stores.
The stores - which have in the past sold iPods, color TVs and Tickle-Me Elmos for 99¢ - are offering the phones to the first nine people who line up at the first 99¢ Only Store in Westchester, Calif., on August 9, according to the company. The promotion is meant to remind people that everything in the store is always only 99¢.
Apple sold 270,000 iPhones in the first day-and-a-half that they were on sale. AT&T reported only 146,000 activated in that same time period.
