Don’t look for a new title for PC World, the magazine that used to cover only PCs but has long ago moved into covering digital cameras, high-def TVs and other gadgets. While the magazine has undergone a redesign with the September issue, and will continue to narrow its focus to covering gadgets, the name will remain the same.
September will see PC World’s first redesigned in six years, writes Mediaweek. With the redesign, the magazine is hoping to position itself as a place to go to find the best, most relevant gadgets on the market, writes Mediaweek.
The new PC World will introduce new departments such as Forward, which will focus on breakthrough products and trends. Security Alert will let readers know about security threats, as well as the tools they need to combat them. And Business Center will provide practical information for small business owners, and will be enhanced by an expanded we section, PCW Business Center.
The new editorial features may help the magazine attract small business advertisers, along with non-endemic marketers like auto makers and credit cards that have technology as part of their message.
PC World total circulation was flat in the second half of 2006, at 855,891. Ad pages through September are down 6 percent.
