‘Elle’ Partners with HSN for Fashion Week Series

Elle magazine plans to air a week-long special series on HSN based on Fall Fashion Week. “HSN Fall Fashion Week Presented by Elle” will air Aug. 18-24. Each night at 10 p.m. Elle’s experts will offer their take on what trends will be hot this fall, then will offer new looks from HSN’s portfolio of fashion and accessories, stylized and presented by Elle senior fashion market editor Joann Pailey and Elle senior writer Maggie Bullock.

WPP Group reported strong results from its traditional and digital media services groups, as well as an increase of 5 percent in billings. Overall, the company had mediocre growth for the first half of 2006, with reportable revenue up just 2 percent.

‘The Gangster’ and ‘Funky Joe’ to Hit U.S. Airwaves Via SBS

The Puerto Rico-based morning radio program starring jockeys Antonio “The Gangster” Sanchez and Jose “Funky Joe” Vallenilla will come to the U.S. via a five-year contract with the Spanish Broadcasting System. The deal includes the rights to broadcast the program across multiple platforms and via select SBS-owned stations in major Hispanic markets, according to Mediaweek.

Jersey Commuters Get NBC TV on Trains

NBC content, including local news from NBC’s New York flagship, WNBC-TV, will play for PATH train passengers beginning in 2008. Eight TV screens are being installed in each of 340 train cars that make up the trains that travel between New Jersey and New York City. Screens will also be installed on PATH train platforms.

Nickelodeon Prohibits Use of Characters on Junk Food

Nickelodeon is prohibiting the use of its characters on junk food except for at special occasions like Halloween or Valentine’s Day. Nick characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and the Rugrats will only be allowed to appear on packaged food products that meet “better for you” criteria - that criteria will be designed by Nickelodeon’s marketing clients, writes The New York Times.

Citadel Signs with Arbitron for PPM

Arbitron Inc. and Citadel Broadcasting, the third largest radio group in the United States, have signed a seven-year contract for the PPM radio ratings services. The contract begins as the new audience ratings technology is commercialized in 14 of Arbitron’s upcoming markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, Detroit, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Providence, Nashville, New Orleans and Memphis.
