This Year, the CW Is a Network to Watch

Media buyers say that the CW, which had a disappointing first season, has made a lot of smart moves, improving its line-up and supplying shows not found on any other broadcast network.

The network this season is expanding upon the WB’s model of targeting young women by adding young men to the mix as well, with shows like Aliens in America - quite possibly the funniest new series, according to Shari Anne Brill, senior vp and director of programming at Carat - and Reaper, writes Media Life.
Last season, the new network ended with ratings just barely above the old WB, and far below the combined audience of the WB and UPN. It pulled a 1.5 among its core audience, adults 18-34, with a 1.9 for women and a 1.1 among men. Ratings this year are expected to come in flat to last year, with a better balance between men and women, and to build to better ratings the following season.

Brill calls the network’s programming “superior” to what it launched with last year.
