In an attempt to pull consumers away from rival food chains and coffee shops such as Starbucks and Coffee Republic, McDoanld’s plans to offer high-speed wireless internet for free in 1200 U.K. locations.
McDonald’s currently owns about 10 percent of the U.K.’s WiFi hotspots, according to the company, writes Net Imperative.
The fast food giant will work with wireless company Cloud Networks to complete the roll-out by the end of the year.
U.K. consumers pay 5 pounds to 6 pounds an hour to access Wi-Fi at Starbucks and Coffee Republic, respectively. McDonald’s says it will save regular users of public wireless internet 260 pounds a year, based on them paying for Wi-Fi one hour per week.
