Anderson, Publishers Negotiating ‘Intensely’

Anderson News and magazine distributors have been meeting in New York this week with publishers to negotiate a solution to the distribution crisis that began two weeks ago, writes MIN Online.

Anderson News - the nation’s largest magazine wholesaler and the main supplier of magazines to Wal-Mart - had announced to its customers that it was asking for a major change in the economics of distribution because of ramifications of scan-based trading.

Its customers, including Time Warner, Comag, Curtis and Kable, in turn threatened stop shipment of their magazines to Anderson.

The meetings have been regular and intense, according to the article, and the immediate threat of disruption in magazine shipments has been stanched. Anderson is, however, still seeking to change the basic economics of distribution

The issue is an important one to publishers, who could face a reduction in newsstand sales, circulation numbers, and, as a result, page yield and page numbers if an agreement with Anderson cannot be reached.
