At Arbitron’s third quarter conference call, CEO Steve Morris said that the ongoing rollout of the Portable People Meter is the company’s number one priority.
Morris pointed out that Radio One signed up for the PPM service earlier this week, saying that, “It’s particularly gratifying that they appear to be excited about the potential of PPM to help tell the story of Urban radio to advertisers,” writes Radio Ink.
He touched on data gathered in Houston and Philadelphia, which he said has been solid from the beginning, panel makeup. He also talked about recruitment for panels, which he said would be the most difficult in the 18-24 and 25-34 age groups. Those are the groups holding down Arbitron’s overall PPM compliance numbers.
As for rebates when there are shortfalls in those demos, Morris said there has been no resolution on the subject.
He also touched on Project Apollo, saying that the extension through the first quarter of 2008 is frustrating but that clients are “very excited” about the results so far. Arbitron has no plans to extend the deadline further, he said, but pointed out that obviously that decision would involve both Nielsen, which is footing half the cost, and clients.
