Sirius Reports 45 Percent Gain in Q3

Sirius Satellite Radio reported a 45 percent revenue gain in Q3 2007, to $241.8 million, due in part to a $71.5 million increase in subscription revenue.

Sirius added 524,938 net subscribers in the third quarter, bringing subscriptions to 7.7 million, writes Radio Ink. Ad revenue was up 19.7 percent.

The company predicts that it will have more than 8 million subscribers at by the end of the year, with total revenue approaching $1 billion.

Sirius ended the quarter with a net loss of $120.1 million, improving from $162.9 million (12 cents) a year ago. Competitor XM’s losses widened to $145.4 million from $85.5 million.

About the potential merger of the two companies, Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin said, “We will continue to work with the FCC and the Department of Justice to make the case that the merger offers more choices, including a la carte offerings and lower prices for subscribers, and we continue to expect that the merger will be completed by year-end.”
