CBS: Scatter Pricing Soars 35 Percent

Les Moonves says that fourth-quarter scatter pricing has rocketed to 35 percent over what was paid during the upfronts.

While much of the rise in scatter for the industry as a whole can be attributed to the fact that there was a large amount of makegoods from last season that are being put into the fourth quarter for the new season, the CBS chief says CBS did not have a lot of makegoods, writes MediaPost.

CBS net profit improved 8 percent in the third quarter to $343.3 million. Revenue slid 3 percent to $3.4 billion. TV revenues dipped 3 percent, much of that due to lower license fees, the impact of radio and television stations sales, and the lack of a UPN network.

Overall ad revenue was down 4 percent, much of that, again, coming from the lack of the UPN.

CBS Radio slid 12 percent in revenue on weak advertising sales and the sale of 10 radio stations. Same station sales saw a slide of 7 percent.

CBS Outdoor saw a 3 percent increase in revenues.
