Inflight Magazines Snare More Time with Top Earners

Forget Forbes, Fortune and The Wall Street Journal. According to the most recent MRI data for Fall 2007, inflight magazines regularly get more time with the nation’s top earners.

Hemispheres, reaching an audience of 2.2 million monthly readers, has the highest median household income of any national publication, at $123,233. The new numbers reflect a readership growth of 21 percent in the last five years, with a 22 percent growth in top management readership. The median reading time for Hemispheres is 26.8 minutes per issue, the longest reading time among all inflight and all national travel magazines, according to Hemispheres publisher Pace Communications.

Delta Sky has the fastest growing audience among all inflights, business, epicurean, men’s, women’s an travel titles, with a 20 percent growth in readership between MRI Spring 2007 data and MRI Fall 2007 data, and 32 percent growth over the last five years. It also has a greater monthly readership than any other inflight, with 3.8 million readers.

Southwest Airlines Spirit has the second-largest readership among all inflights, with 3.2 million monthly readers. Readers have a median personal income of $67,888.

U.S. Airways Magazine has the third-largest readership among all inflights, with 3 million monthly readers. It has increased its readership by 100 percent, according to comparison between MRI Fall 2007 and MRI Fall 2006 data.
