‘Victoria’s Secret’ Reduces Catalog, Email Circulation

Victoria’s Secret is reducing catalog circulation in order to suppress demand, which could cause sales to fall by as much as $150 million in the fourth quarter. The retailer is also reducing email circulation and getting rid of shopping incentives.

The moves come in the aftermath of a new distribution center that was opened in August. Ramping up to full capacity has taken longer than anticipated, making it difficult to meet expected volume, writes Multichannel Merchant.

Sales at the Limited Brands company fell 64 percent in August due to shipping delays. Revenue then grew 27 percent in September and 5 percent in October, much of that due to redemption of a $25 discount apology sent to customers whose orders were delayed due to operational issues.

The moves to control demand have been taken in order to “protect our customers’ experience,” according to a company official.
