ZenithOptimedia: Global Ad Market to Grow 6.7%; Net to Overtake Mags in 2010

ZenithOptimedia’s new global advertising report estimates that the global ad market will grow next year by 6.7 percent; in the U.S., that growth will be just 4.1 percent.

Growth will come thanks in large part to the Olympics, the U.S. presidential election, and European football, writes Search Engine Land.

The report predicts that the internet will overtake magazines in 2010, becoming the world’s third-largest advertising medium. The internet ad market will be worth almost $61 billion, compared with the magazine ad market which will rest at about $60.5 billion, according to The Guardian.

See table of global ad spend and share of market by medium, 2006-2011.

The internet will account for 11.5 percent of global ad spend, behind TV, at 37.5 percent, and newspapers, at 25.4 percent. Currently, internet ad spend is behind radio but is expected to surpass radio next year; it already passed radio ad spend last year in the U.K.

Online will account for 15 percent of total ad spend in 10 regional markets around the world by 2010. Currently only four markets - Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the U.K. - have reached that milestone. In those four markets, online ad spend should surpass 20 percent of all media spend by 2010.
