CBS chief Les Moonves is hopeful, though not terribly optimistic, about an imminent settlement to the writers strike; in the meantime, he has said that the network may air some series - edited for content - from CBS-owned premium cable channel Showtime.
In the near term - at least for the next two months - viewers likely will not notice much change in programming, because December is generally filled with holiday specials and January is packed with football, he said (via USA Today).
The show most likely to be brought to CBS is Dexter, a show about a serial killer who works for the police, writes Mediaweek.
Reuters adds that Dexter, now in its second season on Showtime, has broken ratings records for the network, with its November 18 episode ranking as the most-watched in Showtime history.
While the network’s ratings may fall without new episodes of its popular shows, including CSI and Two and a Half Men, the company is expecting to do well, thanks in part to election-year ads at CBS-owned TV and radio stations. Showtime is also seeing hot sales of its original productions overseas. Californication, for example, is bringing in about $800,000 for each episode, the “highest-selling half hour in history,” Moonves said.
