The Wine Enthusiast Cos. is running a direct response print ad in the Wall Street Journal which asks readers to take pictures of the ad, using their camera phones, and send them to the company to receive discounts.
It’s an alternative to conventional printed coupons, and is the first mobile marketing promotion that uses image recognition technology, says Gautam Bhargava, CEO and co-founder of the agency behind the campaign, SnapTell.
“We are always looking for unique technologies that enhance the shopping experience of our customers,” says Francis M. Juliano, CIO/CMO of Wine Enthusiast. He points out that Wine Enthusiast customers tend to be technology savvy, and the campaign is designed to create a long term, interactive brand relationship with customers.
