A record $27.5 billion in business went into play in 2007, nearly 57 percent more than the $17.5 billion in 2006, according to an Adweek analysis of accounts worth more than $20 million in billings.

The 2007 record beats by $5.5 billion the previous record of $22 billion in 2005, writes Adweek. The number of clients that switched shops in 2007 was up 20 percent to 153, from 128 in 2006.

The most active categories in terms of ad spend were computers/software, telecommunications, packaged goods, automotive and retail.

The biggest account shift last year was the $4.5 billion Dell global marketing services. WPP Group won the review, which is creating a new shop specifically to service the account.
