NBC’s remake of American Gladiators posted a 5.9 in the 18-49 demo in the first hour on Sunday night, and ratings built in the second hour, giving it the best debut for any new show this season.
The show trailed a new episode of ABC’s Desperate Housewives at 9 p.m., but topped the special premiere of that network’s Cashmere Mafia at 10 p.m., writes MediaPost.
Cashmere Mafia performed better among women 18-49 and 25-54; Gladiators won among the women 18-34 demo.
However, as Gladiators moves to its regular Monday at 8 p.m. time slot, it will face off against ABC’s Dancing with the Stars spinoff, Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann and Fox’s Prison Break, so it may have a difficult time maintaining its lead. On the other hand, if the writers strike persists, Prison Break will soon run out of new episodes, which could give Gladiators a boost.
