iBiquity: Satellite Radio Should Have HD Capabilities

iBiquity Digital, the creator of HD Radio technology, has sent a letter to FCC staffers and lawyers that if the proposed merger between XM and Sirius satellite radio companies is approved, new satellite receivers should include HD Radio reception.

The letter says that a merger could hamper iBiquity’s ability to introduce HD Radio into the marketplace, according to Mediaweek.

XM and Sirius responded with a formal statement which reads, in part, “iBiquity’s own filing highlights satellite radio’s competition with HD Radio and their proposal is nothing more than a self-interested attempt to use the regulatory process to promote HD Radio’s market share in this highly competitive landscape.”
