Mel Karmazin, CEO of Sirius Satellite Radio, told analysts yesterday that merging Sirius and XM would save hundreds of millions of dollars, which would allow the companies to cut prices for satellite radio subscriptions.
He said it is unlikely the merger won’t be approved, while at the same time bemoaning the fact that it has taken so long for government agencies to come to a decision, writes Adweek.
Karmazin said the Department of Justice has spoken to automakers, Sirius talent and others involved with the industry and should have enough information to come to a decision. If, however, the DOJ does try to stop the merger, at least “we’d have our day in court,” he said.
