Two advertisers, Prudential and Citigroup, have reportedly withdrawn their commercials from the Golden Globes awards show, which has been changed from the traditional format to one of a news conference in the face of anticipated picket lines.
Other advertisers are said to be weighing their options, according to The New York Times. NBC has said that it will offer refunds to advertisers who had committed to the awards program.
The news conference will be held on Sunday at 9:00. The Dateline NBC Golden Globes preview, originally scheduled for Saturday, will likely be held Sunday at 7 p.m. NBC is also considering showing American Gladiators at 10 p.m.
A scheduling announcement may come today (Wednesday).
Advertisers who had committed to the awards show include L’Oreal, Kraft, Target, Toyota and General Motors.
The awards show has generated between $10 million and $15 million in advertising revenue in previous years.
