December saw the eighth straight month of revenue drops for radio, with a 5 percent slip compared to the same month in 2006.
Radio’s slippage is now outpacing Wall Street’s negative predictions, according to radio analyst Jim Boyle of CL King and Associates (via MediaPost), who pointed out that investors predicted a 2 percent drop.
Boyle predicts an overall drop of 4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007.
Continued losses in local ad revenue sped the decline.
Bear Stearns analyst Victor Miller predicts revenue drops at all major broadcasters. CBS Radio will be down 7 percent, he says. Citadel will slip 5.5 percent, Beasley will be down 6 percent, Radio One will fall 5 percent, Cumulus will drop 3.5 percent and Clear Channel will fall 3 percent.
