NBC has managed to hold relatively steady against the return of American Idol this mid-season, using a revamped Tuesday and Wednesday night schedule to hold a lead against ABC, CBS and the CW.
Last Tuesday and Wednesday, NBC posted its best-ever, non-Olympic numbers opposite the two-hour edition of the reality leviathan, according to Media Life.
On Tuesday, the network aired a two-hour Biggest Loser, which was up 58 percent over NBC’s rating in the same time slot last year. The following week, Loser claimed the network’s highest rating since February 2006 opposite Idol, with a 2.9 average.
Idol averaged 13.8, way ahead of CBS’s 2.6, CW’s 1.0 and ABC’s 1.1.
On Wednesday, NBC also did well, with Deal or No Deal pulling a 3.1 rating, up 41 percent from its average against Idol on the same night last year.
Among all networks, NBC in particular has struggled against American Idol in the past, trying several series in time slots opposite the show, including Joey, Fear Factor and Crossing Jordan.
