Reader’s Digest Canada is launching a new healthy lifestyle magazine in March, aimed at Canadian women aged 35 to 55.
Best Health, scheduled to launch across Canada on March 24, 2008, will focus on four main editorial pillars: Look Great, Get Healthy, Eat Well, and Embrace Life. The magazine, scheduled to be published six times a year, will be available at over 7,600 locations across Canada including Shoppers Drug Mart, Great Canadian News, Loblaw, Wal-Mart, London Drugs, Costco and Chapters.
Reader’s Digest is projecting a guaranteed rate base for the first issue of 100,000.
Larry Thomas, vp and publisher of Reader’s Digest Canada, acknowledges that the magazine is entering a competitive market, but adds that the company’s research indicates not only a strong demand for healthy living publications but the fact that the current market need is not being met.
“This, paired with the health DNA we currently have within Reader’s Digest, makes it a natural extension for a new magazine,” he says. A full-page, four-color ad runs for $10,000. The premiere issue of Best Health will be available at a special launch issue price of $3.99, after which it will be listed at $4.99 per issue.
