Ryanair, the U.K.’s low-cost airline, is running an ad which has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority. Ryanair says the banning of the ad is “absurd,” and plans to continue running the campaign.
The ASA said the print ad, which shows a sexy schoolgirl in a classroom along with the slogan “hottest back to school fares,” links the image of teenage girls with sexually provocative behavior, according to the Guardian.
In a statement, Ryanair calls the ASA’s stance “Monty Pythonesque” and nothing short of censorship. “At a time when TV and media advertising is full of suggestive and provocative images, Ryanair believes that there is nothing either irresponsible or offensive in the attached advert,” the statement reads.
The ad appeared in the Herald, the Daily Mail and the Scottish Mail.
