The New York Times plans to cut 100 newsroom jobs this year. Executive editor Bill Keller says the cuts will come mainly through attrition and buyouts, but layoffs are a possibility.
The Times currently has the largest number of employees in its history, writes Folio. With 1,332 newsroom employees, it also employs the largest number of any U.S. paper - no other has more than about 900.
Industry ad revenue slipped 7 percent last year, while the NY Times Co. revenue was down 4.7 percent. The company has been making significant cuts at its flagship paper as well as at others, including the Boston Globe.
AdAge reports that one in four newspaper jobs have disappeared since 1990.
Katz Media Group has added another new client, Lincoln Financial Media, and will sell ad time on the company’s 15 stations beginning immediately.
