Sears will be cutting 200 jobs at its Illinois headquarters, MediaPost reports.

200 lost jobs totals 4 percent of headquarters employees. Cuts will occur in a division that includes marketing, store operations, customer strategy and finance. This hodgepodge was recently renamed “Support” after a reorganization effort.

Life elsewhere is blooming. Kenmore recently showcased new products at the International Builders’ Show, notably the eco-friendly Kenmore Elite Oasis washer and Oasis SteamCare, as well as antimicrobial technology for refrigerators.

The new Oasis items surpass Energy Star standards and will appear in Sears stores next month.

Meanwhilst, Kmart is conducting a national search for “the country’s next style guru,” which will serve as a Kmart fashion ambassador.

The winner will appear in ads, work with Soho designers for a day, and take home $10,000 worth of Kmart gift cards.

DDB’s Paul Tilley Dies Friday

Creative Director Paul Tilley of DDB, Chicago died of suicide on Friday evening, AdPulp reports (via MarketinVOX).

Early accounts of the incident say Tilley leapt from the Fairmont Hotel near DDB’s Aon Center office.

Tilley worked at DDB for 11 years. He developed “Dude, You’re Gettin’ a Dell,” a campaign that boosted Dell from number four to number one in at-home PC sales.

He was also co-developer of McDonald’s long-running “I’m Lovin’ It,” which won McDonald’s a Cannes Lions and its highest sales in 30 years, AdWeek wrote.

DDB President Rick Carpenter lamented, “Paul was a mentor to many, a friend to all. His ability to lead, inspire, and yes, entertain will be so greatly missed.”

Paul Tilley is survived by his wife and two children. He was 40 years old when he died.

Dog Toy Co. Launches Mobile Billboard Campaign

Doggy Tug, a company that specializes in dog tug toys, is teaming with Bulldog Mobile Billboards for an ad campaign that combines guerrilla and experiential marketing.

The effort promotes pet toys to consumers while seeking B2B contacts in veterinarian offices and pet stores for distribution, according to DM News.

A 6′x10′ mobile billboard shall be driven around on the back of a truck, featuring imagery of a dog playing with a tug toy, and the URL and phone number of Doggy Tug.

The vehicle will circulate the Dallas metro area and visit pet store locations, vet offices and dog parks, where promoters can hand out information and free dog toys.

Searches Jump 9% in January, Only Yahoo Loses Share
