NBC and ABC are squabbling over Scrubs.
NBC was apparently unaware that ABC is in negotiations to grab 18 episodes of the medical series from show producer ABC Studios. A network insider said NBC is still in “first negotiation period,” a period of exclusive negotiations, with ABC Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
NBC and ABC Studios have tussled over the medical show since its inception; industry observers expect that there may be a nasty showdown over a series which may be on its last legs anyway. And though network jumping comes up often in contract negotiations, making the leap is rare. Recent examples of shows hopping networks include Buffy the Vampire Slayer (WB to UPN) and JAG (NBC to CBS).
Scrubs has recently shared NBC’s Thursday night lineup with The Office, My Name Is Earl and 30 Rock. The Zach Braff-helmed show was the lowest-rated of the bunch.
NBC will start airing the five remaining original episodes of Scrubs on April 10.
