AOL will be launching at least 12 new sites this year, mostly in an attempt to offer more ad inventory.
AOL has struggled as expectations of ad revenue making up for lost subscriptions have gone largely unfilled. It has previously tried launching niche sites to provide opportunities for advertisers trying to reach concentrated audiences, reports Bloomberg (via MarketingVox).
And while AOL sites logged 109.4 million visitors in January (comScore), efforts to squeeze sufficient profit from them have been largely unsuccessful. What verticals remain for AOL to expand into are unknown and unnamed.
