‘Gossip Girl’ Parties On, ‘Reaper’ May Meets Its Maker at CW

The CW has granted Gossip Girl a sophomore season but did not commit to renewing Reaper or Aliens in America.

The CW has renewed Gossip Girl, a teen drama focusing on the rich and pretentious of Manhattan’s upper east side, because the soap-like show has a passionate young fan base. It’s the loyalty of that fan base, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that’s keeping the show on the schedule; the series has averaged just a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.6 million viewers.
Smallville will get an eighth run, Supernatural a fourth, One Tree Hill a sixth, Everybody Hates Chris a fourth. America’s Next Top Model will be back for cycles 11 and 12.

The CW may be taking a wait-and-see approach to Reaper, which returns with five new eps starting April 22. Shows that definitely felt the ax are Life is Wild, Online Nation and WWE SmackDown.
