In an effort to battle better-rated morning fare The View and Rachael Ray, NBC may bring in Kathie Gifford for the fourth hour of NBC’s Today show.
No deal has been finalized, but there’s speculation aswirl that the former Regis Philbin co-host is set to join the estrogen-friendly fourth hour of Today, 60 minutes rife with fashion and shopping topics. Gifford could share the couch with Hoda Kotb, current co-anchor of the program’s fourth hour. Ann Curry and Natalie Morales would continue to be showcased mainly in the first three hours, according to a source quoted in the New York Times.
Despite a strong showing in the first two hours (#1 with 6.1 million viewers) of the show, Today has struggled to establish an audience in its fourth hour, when it usually faces The View and Rachael Ray. The fourth hour of Today loses to The Price Is Right in Los Angeles.
