CBS has announced that inventory for the telecasts beginning March 20 is 95 percent sold out and that it expects to bring in about $450 million in TV ad revenue over the course of the contest’s run. TNS predicts that number to be closer to $545 million.
Impressive but understandable numbers at $1.4 million a pop for a :30 spot in the championship telecast. The network will also pick up another $21 million in ad revenue, an amount that has doubled in each of the past three years, for internet streamings.
Ever a good seller, ad sales for the tournament telecasts are ahead of last year’s levels and will likely end up more than 12 percent over 2007, as reported by MediaWeek. There’s a bit of inventory available for late-to-the-court marketers, but advertisers will need to commit to buying packages to get in the game.
