Cerveza Tecate is starting a new campaign to connect with Mexican men living in the U.S.
Tecate, distributed stateside by Heinken USA, is one of Mexico’s leading beer brands. The Spanish-language ads will focus on the achievements of Mexican men living in the U.S. and will bear the tag line ‘Con Caracter’ or ‘With Character.’
The campaign is made up of 18 vignettes featuring Mexican working men and each ad uses Mexican colloquialisms, such as ‘Por los que saben de que lado masca la iguana,’ or ‘For those who know on which side the iguana chews.’ The lead-off :30 TV spot starts March 14 during ‘Solo Boxeo Tecate,’ a weekly Telefutura boxing program sponsored by Cerveza; it will later roll out to Spanish-language networks such as Univision, Azteca America, and Fox Sports en Español. Print ads, Business Wire, will run in Spanish-language newspapers such as Los Angeles’ La Opinion, according to the company. Radio and out-of-home ads will hit 36 key Hispanic markets, such as Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tucson and Dallas.
