Horton Hears Toilet-Shaped Flamingo in Huggies Spot

If you’re prone to flashbacks, you may want to shield your eyes when you take the tots to Horton Hears a Who.

Diaper maker Huggies is running a :60 ad preceding the Dr. Suess-inspired movie for its kids’ bath and body products - an ad featuring a flamingo shaped like a toilet and a hippo with a soap dispenser for a head. The ads will show on more than 3,500 movie screens nationwide through April 24.

Webisodes featuring the ‘Cleanteam,’ according to BrandWeek, will run on Nickjr.com, BabyZone.com, Parenting.com and Kaboose.com.

Huggies’ owner Kimberly-Clark spent $1.4 million on media for Cleanteam in 2007, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus. The Cleanteam campaign is the latest in KC’s strategy to increase its nontraditional efforts, spending for which should reach 34 percent of its marketing budget in 2008.

In 2007, Kimberly-Clark was estimated to have spent 25 percent on nontraditional advertising, compared with 10 percent the previous year. The company is expected to continue the trend in the next couple of years. Loyalty programs is one area on which the company has been focusing. In the past week, K-C has partnered with Kroger grocery stores to offer online and mobile clipless coupons to consumers.
