Despite bad hair and make-up faux pas, local news personalities are trusted by television viewers, according to a new study to be unveiled by Hearst-Argyle Television.
Ads that run during local news programs drive purchases more than any other medium, the study found, Mediaweek writes. According to the study, local news is one of the least TiVo’ed program types and TV is the first choice of consumers seeking news and information.
The study is being released just a month after a Forrester Research survey showed that, once DVR penetration hits 50 percent, more than half of leading marketers plan to cut their TV spend by as much as 12 percent. 62 percent said they believed TV ads were less effective.
Hearst-Argyle, which commissioned the new study from Frank N. Magid Associates, will release the results this week during the Television Bureau of Advertising’s annual conference.
