Nearly 50 percent of the U.K.’s kids - that is, those ages 8 to 17 years old - who have access to the internet have created a profile on a social networking site.
Of those, 41 percent leave their privacy settings as default, or open, which means anyone can view their profiles, according to research from Ofcom (via Net Imperative). Some 27 percent of 8 to 11-year-olds who are aware of the social networking sites and have access to the internet have created a profile.
Bratty behavior is apparently not out of style on social networks among the tween set: A small percentage of tots admitted to using social networks to “get back” at those with whom they had had a falling out.
