Stormtroopers descended upon Cartoon Network’s annual upfront presentation along with Star Wars creator George Lucas himself, in order to promote the network’s upcoming animated strip Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
The fourth-quarter series will anchor a new Friday night fantasy/adventure block. Cartoon Network is saying the series will be a game changer, giving young viewers something completely different than anything they are seeing anywhere else, writes Mediaweek. Another show in the block will feature a lighthearted, rather than angst-ridden, Batman.
Comedy is coming to Thursday nights, with popular Chowder coming at 8 p.m., followed by Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and George of the Jungle. Sunday nights will be for movie showcases.
Stuart Snyder, president and COO of Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media, touted the network’s new Cartoonstitute, an initiative that is geared toward streamlining the development process for animated pilots. The goal is to get 150 new pieces of content into the incubator throughout the next 20 months.

Cartoon Network reached 442,000 kids 6-11, down 21 percent from the previous year, and 663,000 kids 2-11 (down 16 percent).
