Yahoo, in a another shot at Google, has debuted new features to simplify search functionality for mobile phone users.
In the latest version of its oneSearch service, the search engine company intends to enhance millions of web links accessible on phones and to enable users to employ voice commands to search the web. Yahoo has made deals with companies worldwide to reach a potential 600 million phone users with internet services.
The search technology, reported Yahoo Finance, will allow publishers to have greater control over how users are presented with their content. The new voice commands will let consumers go deeper than existing mobile voice recognition systems.
Yahoo appears to be pressing ahead with its mobile technologies as if Microsoft had not made an unsolicited takeover bid.
Some 46.1 million mobile data users in the U.S. used mobile search functions in the third quarter of 2007, according to a Nielsen Company report examining the mobile search behavior of wireless subscribers.
