The Wall Street Journal, which is waging a full-frontal attack on The New York Times by fattening its business news, politics and sports reporting, has made changes to section A, adding a third daily page of opinion content plus two new columnists.
Gordon Crovitz, the Journal publisher who left in December when Dow Jones’ new parent, News Corp., took over, will pen a column about the impact of digital technology on business, writes Portfolio.
Liberal writer Thomas Frank is the second columnist. In a note in the paper, the Journal seeks to reassure those who might worry that the paper is on its way to leaning as far left as The Times, saying, “The Journal has often had a liberal column in the past, and Mr. Frank can help our readers understand what’s on the mind of the American left as it bids to regain control of the federal government,” according to a note in the paper.
