The CW is programming just 10 hours of the week, and the focus of the fledgling network with this fall’s season is the young, female audience.
With that audience in mind, the network is building on the success of its popular Gossip Girl by introducing female-focused serialized dramas and reality competitions, including three new series for the fall, writes Mediaweek. 90210 is a continuation of the Beverly Hills teen drama (which will even include some familiar faces from the original, according to Variety), to air on Tuesday nights, along with Surviving the Filthy Rich, a drama that follows a 23-year-old journalist as a tutor to rich teenage girls.
Also on Tuesdays will air Tyra Banks-produced Stylista, an Apprentice-like show that has contestants vying for a gig with Elle magazine.
Friday, now lacking WWE Smackdown, will include Everybody Hates Chris and The Game, along with an encore presentation of America’s Next Top Model.
The elimination of WWE on Fridays gives the network five straight nights to reach out to women ages 18-34, according to CW Entertainment pres Dawn Ostroff.
The network’s fall sked will air beginning the first week of September, in the hopes of locking in an audience before the other networks air new shows later in the month.
