A favorite Swedish furniture retailer of young-marrieds is finally coming to New York City, and is announcing its arrival with fanfare.
Ikea will open in Brooklyn’s Red Hook on June 18; an outdoor campaign will begin June 9 and run through the 30th, according to the company.
To celebrate the long-awaited arrival, the retailer has built soaring sculptures of New York landmarks, like the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building and the New York skyline, using its Ikea-branded flat-pack boxes. The sculptures will be displayed near the store and will also be used in television and print ads. Cardboard “pop-up” rooms, fully furnished, will grace Union Square, Borough Hall, the Public Library and Cadman Plaza.
The campaign also includes radio, projection media, pizza delivery boxes, phone kiosks, and direct mail.
Katz Media Group has added another new client, Lincoln Financial Media, and will sell ad time on the company’s 15 stations beginning immediately.
