Branding Death

'You shall be
clothed in glory' urn

If a recently deceased loved-one had a penchant for Precious Moments statuettes, you now can indulge her taste by burying her in a casket decorated with the fawn-eyed children.

Eternal Image Inc. is the first company in the funeral industry to break into licensing, and has inked deals with Major League Baseball, colleges and universities, the American Kennel Club and Cat Fanciers Association, as well as with Precious Moments, writes Brandweek.

Decorative urns and caskets are items available for branding. “If you’ve ever had the sorrow of buying a casket, you see the potential,” says Woody Browne, managing partner of Building Q, the licensing agent working with Eternal Image. “My dad definitely would’ve had a Red Sox casket, but they didn’t exist then.”

“People have passion,” explains the website. “It runs through all we do - who we love, what we do for a living, how we worship and how we spend our free time. So, why, when our lives are so full of passion, do funerals - events designed to celebrate a life - have to be so plain and boring? Eternal Image gives people choices.”

The company is now working with CBS Consumer Products to produce Star Trek-branded items.
