Newspaper Ads Help Drive Consumers to the Web

Some 44 percent of people who saw a product or service advertised in a newspaper in the past month researched it - and two-thirds (67 percent) of that group went online to find more information (see chart), according to a Google-commissioned survey from Clark, Martire & Bartolomeo, writes MarketingCharts.

Q1 Auto Spending Slips Sharply, Lags behind Retail

Auto industry ad spending slipped steeply in the first quarter. Nielsen said ad spending fell 12 percent to just over $2 billion; TNS says spending dropped 13 percent, to about $3.2 billion. The automotive sector has fallen to the number two spot in terms of overall spending, behind retail.

Wachovia Analyst Downgrades Newspaper Predictions

Newspapers groups hoping to see a light at the end of the tunnel come 2009 may be in for a disappointment. Total newspaper ad revenue will slip 10.4 percent this year and 6.5 percent in 2009, according to Wachovia analyst John Janedis.
