Cox Newspapers has adapted its content for mobile and has launched 19 mobile websites in partnership with Quattro Wireless.
Quattro will be handling ad operations and ad sales. Some of the mobile newspaper sites include the Statesman.com (Austin, Texas), PalmBeachPost.com (Florida), DaytonDailyNews.com (Ohio), and WacoTrib.com (Texas).
The new mobile sites offer visitors access to breaking local and national news, along with “Quick Search” features for accessing local restaurants, events, music, and movie listings.
In addition to Cox Newspapers, Quattro powers and sells mobile advertising for other top news sites such as CBS News, The Street.com and Boston.com.
Cox publishes 17 daily and 26 non-daily newspapers.
The Associated Press is creating a Mobile News Network that will allow newspapers to distribute AP content to the iPhone and other smart phones, Tom Curley, president and CEO of AP, announced in April.
Mobile News Network members can participate by providing local news that will appear alongside their logos. The network also offers a new outlet for members to sell local advertising to the mobile audience.
