Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post and Mortimer Zuckerman’s Daily News - bitter rivals for readers in the New York area - are considering making nice and combining some business functions to save costs.
Talks between the two papers are said to have begun in May after Murdoch’s News Corp. and Zuckerman both failed to win the bid for Tribune Co.’s Newsday, which went to Cablevision Systems for $650 million, according to The New York Times.
The talks, described as preliminary, were made a necessity by the “realities of the newspaper business,” says one source.
In addition to a broader agreement between the papers, the two are also in talks with the Wall Street Journal to combine home delivery options.
